Your child's care is our number one priority, and for this reason, we make it a point to have the latest in dental technologies to assess their oral health. We are very excited about the new high-tech systems we now have in our office!

MI paste (Minimum Intervention)

Dental caries is an infectious disease which requires the presence of cavity-forming bacteria that are sustained by a high sugar diet. If these factors are present, the bacteria produce acids which attack the enamel (causing demineralization). Over time, this leads to the destruction of the enamel and the start of decay, often seen as white spots. MI paste delivers calcium and phosphate to the enamel, which allows for regeneration of both enamel and dentin.

MI paste is recommended for patients who are at a high risk of developing decay, who have decalcified areas (“white spots”) due to orthodontic treatment, patients with dry mouth or sensitivity, and to heal white spot cavities and decalcification.

MI paste is quick-acting and easy to apply at home. After brushing with a fluoride toothpaste, a layer of the paste is applied to the tooth surfaces using a clean finger. The MI paste should be left undisturbed for about 3 minutes, then spread around the mouth using the tongue. Any remaining paste should be expectorated.

Logicon (Caries Detector Software)

Logicon is a special software that is clinically proven to help us find decalcified areas (pre-cavities) between the teeth (areas that would not normally have been seen with traditional x-rays). This is important because it allows us to treat these spots more conservatively (using MI Paste to heal the areas). Logicon signals Dr. Weiss to take a closer look at the tooth involved, allowing us to provide better patient care. It also allows the dental team to track the changes of decalcified areas (“weak spots”) over time, saving the results to the patient file.

Computer Digital Radiography (CDR)

Our digital x-ray system allows our team to take an x-ray image of your child's teeth and immediately have the digital photo up on a monitor for review. We can then enhance the image quickly and easily. It's not just the ease and convenience that your child will love.

The digital x-ray system also has the following benefits:

  • The exposure to x-rays is greatly reduced.
  • Patient education is improved by an image the is displayed immediately on a chairside monitor.
  • Bigger, colorful images make it easier for your and your child to understand their treatment.
  • It reduces hazardous waste in the environment since we do not need chemicals and film to process the radiographs.
  • It takes less time since there isn't any x-ray film to process.
  • Patients can take home a printed photo of their teeth.

Intraoral Camera:

This camera allows the dental team, you and your child to view a magnified picture of their teeth and gums on a chairside monitor. The camera enables us to see the health status of oral tissues, dental caries, infections and more. Your child will also be able to see before-and-after treatment pictures that allow them to better understand and become more involved in their oral health care.

We have incorporated both of these new technologies into your child's examination process
as part of our commitment to offering our patients the highest quality,
most innovative dental care.
